The Ph.D. program´s main goal is to teach students how to organize, research, and write a successful Doctoral thesis. Doctoral graduates will be conversant with the conceptual and methodological components of political research and qualified as experts in their subjects. Applicants must have a good advanced PG or equivalent degree in politics or cognate disciplines to be considered for admission to the Ph.D. program. Every year, during the summer, admissions are held based on an entrance test, and notifications for admissions are posted on the university´s website.
Syllabus of M.Phil. Course Work 2016
Course Structure:
The course work shall have four papers.
The course work shall have two compulsory papers.
The course shall have one optional paper to be selected from three optional papers by the candidate.
The fourth paper shall be in the form of “Paper Submission and Presentation” in the department as Seminar.
Each paper shall carry 5 Credits and 100 marks; which includes 20 marks for internal assessment and 80 marks for final term examination (except for the fourth paper).
Candidates shall have to secure minimum of 50% in aggregate to clear the course work.
Candidates shall be required to attend minimum of 75% of the total class days of the course work to appear for the final term exam.
Candidate has to complete the whole process i. e. course work, synopsis presentation and Dissertation submission within 18 months (6 months for course work and 12 months for the preparation and presentation of the Dissertation).
Every candidate has to submit Progress Report after every 6 months.

1. PAPER I: Course Code 701: Research Methodology
CO-1: After completion of this course, students will have a basic foundation on Scientific Research in Social Science.
CO-2: Gives an understanding on reciprocal relationship between theory and research and application of theory to build a strong research base.
CO-3: Demonstrate knowledge of research design and its proper application in individual research work.
CO-4: Perform literature reviews using print and online database.
CO-5: Identify, explain, compare, and prepare the key elements of a research proposal or a research report.
CO-6: Compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative research paradigms, and explain the use of each.
CO-7: Describe sampling methods, measurement scales and instruments, and appropriate uses of it.
CO-8: Understanding different methods and tools of data collection for application.
CO-9: Knowledge on statistical tools in social science, like- SPSS for performing statistical analysis.
2. PAPER II: Course Code 702: Political Theory
CO-1: The course will give an idea about the basics of Political Science who come from
other disciplines as research is inter-disciplinary in its nature.
CO-2: Gives an overview on State and its manifestation.
CO-4: Understanding basic concepts of Rights, Liberty, Equality, Justice and Citizenship that
may help in theorizing the research as a whole, and related to the research topic in specific.
CO-5: Developing a debate on State and Sovereignty in the 21st Century and its changing
role in the context of Globalisation..
CO-6: It focuses on new trends in Political Theory, like- ecologism, feminism,
multiculturalism etc.
CO-7: Evaluating the major debates in Marxism, Fascism, Nazism and End of Ideology.
