Institutional Biotech Hub is a DBT-GoI sponsored project sanctioned on 30th Nov 2011 as Establishment of Institutional Level Biotech Hubs under Special Programme for North Eastern states with the objectives of providing basic biotechnology infrastructure facility for the students, faculties, researchers of individual institutions as well as nearby institutions in (Phase 1) to create an ecosystem to foster and nurture biotechnology based education amongst students and youth of 6th schedule area of Bodoland Territorial Council with focused vertical of Bioentrepreneurship, skill development, capacity building and employment generation. Later it was upgraded to Advanced Level Institutional Biotech Hub in 2017. The phase 1 ended on Nov,2019. The Phase 2 of Advanced Level Institutional Biotech Hub with Project No BT/NER/143/SP44339/2021 was sanctioned on 21st February 2023 for three years where the additional objective is being laid for research aptitude following local challenges, resources.
The journey of Biotech Hub, Bodoland University started with addressing the local issues concerning food security, addressing health, nutrition, employment generation and agro waste management with minimal investment of depleting resources. Since inception the prime focus of Biotech Hub Bodoland University was waste management in resonance if circular economy in Bodoland Territorial Region and eventually the greater North Eastern Region.
Biotech Hub Bodoland University also took pain to does foundation of Biotechnology Education in rural and remote schools popularizing the concept of BLiSS Progarmme by DBT and helping the schools submitting the proposal and eventually after getting the BLiSS grant, helping the schools in setting the Laboratory where schools students shall have basic foundation about Biotechnology. These Schools were
The other area which Biotech Hub, Bodoland University focused was popular talks , out reach programme and eventually into core biotechnology based education through periodic training and workshops.
Overall Biotech Hub, Bodoland University was a platform or a tree from which other projects have emerged in the university and also helped other similar sister and non sister departments of the institutions of the regions. It has help to link Scientist and researchers of the region to link to the global web of knowledge. Biotech Hub, Bodoland University has helped numerous UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D students of the region.
