The Department of Bodo was established in 1998, while the institution was a constituent campus under the Gauhati University. Since its inception, the Department has been taking the initiative to acquaint students in language, literature and culture in response to the demands of the time. The Department is offering M.A. and Ph.D. in Bodo. The motto of the Department is to provide comprehensive ideas and knowledge of the Bodo language, literature, and the composite culture of the Bodos from a folkloristic point of view. The Department also seeks to make the students acquainted with the origin and historical development of the Bodo language, literature and culture.
