About the Facility

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) funded-Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) at the Department of Biotechnology, Bodoland University, was established in the year 2015 under the scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India to promote innovation in Biology with the aid of Bioinformatics. Since its foundation, BIF is disseminating trainings and workshopsbiannually in various fields of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology to Undergraduate andPost Graduatestudents of the University and affiliated colleges of Bodoland University and other Universities of North East India. Experts from renowned institutes and industries are invited to deliver talks and hands-onsessions duringthe conducted trainings and workshops.

The facility has been constantly involved inenhancing theBioinformatics skills by providing theory and practical classes to the students of BiotechnologyDepartment of the University. The facility is also regularly availed by Post Graduate students of the Department of Biotechnology for pursuing specialization in Computational Biology. It offers Junior Research Fellowships to eligible candidates, six months traineeships to Post Graduate students and studentships to Post Graduate pursuing students of Life Sciences. Currently, the facility is involved in drug discovery towards Haemoglobinopathy, Endocrinology, Oncology and Microbiology with the data’s curated in the wet labs of life science Departments of Bodoland University. The outcomes of the research works carried out by the Junior Research Fellows, traineeship holders and Studentship holders are documented through research publications in Impact Factor Journals. The Facility welcomes national and international collaborative efforts on the research areas mentioned above.
