The Department of History, Bodoland University was introduced in 2005. Since its inception, the Department has been attempting to provide sound knowledge in reconstructing the history of the downtrodden communities whose histories are less known or ignored. It attempts to produce qualitative students and scholars in history who will help the human civilization through their research works. One of the most important objectives of the Department is to preserve the oral tradition of the Bodo community and other tribal people of North East India; unless it is preserved, it may be swiped away.
Objective and Mission
The Department aims at helping students to understand the present existing social, political, religious and economic condition of the people; and ecological condition too. The teaching of history helps students analyse the present based on the past and traces its course. The cause-and-effect relationship between the past and the present is presented in history.
