The Department of Botany was established in 2014 and offers M.Sc. degree in Botany. The Department also introduced a Ph.D. programme in 2017. Since its inception, the Department of Botany has remained at the forefront of teaching and research in Botany. The Department aims to provide quality-based higher education in plant sciences, catering to the needs of many in the region. The Department emphasizes to promote integrated understanding and utilization of plants in various conventional and frontier areas of Botany. The major thrust areas of the Department are floristic studies of the region, plant physiology, pharmacology, biodiversity conservation, forest ecology, algology, fungal diversity, lichenology, microbiology, cytogenetics, bioremediation and nanobiotechnology.
