The Department of Assamese was established in 1998 after the establishment of the Kokrajhar campus of Gauhati University. The Department of Assamese has now completed its glorious 23 years. Many teachers have offered their duties these years, and many students from different parts of Assam have completed their master"s degrees.
The Department of Assamese was established with the vision of preservation and enrichment of oriental learning, culture, philosophy and thought by virtue of deep studies and research of Assamese language, literature, and culture. It includes teaching and research on different Assamese literary and cultural texts ranging from folk literature to the texts belonging to the contemporary era relating them to the exemplification of the cultural, social, humanitarian values aiming at transporting the same to the society.
